“The headline should have been "Displaced wins Place" 0r Ethnically Cleansed Ancestor gets to get a whiff of her past. Very brave of you to mention that the Islanders were forcibly removed by the British to make way for an American Air Base! However, to report that a young woman said "The MPA, it's not just good for Chagos but for everyone else too. It's good to have an example of how other places should be" is akin to writing about a young Jew saying "Hitler was the best thing to happen to the Jews; for everyone else too"
Vile reporting beyond comprehension!!!

Phil, for your own sake, you really should stop this. If anyone took your opinions seriously, then you would have solicitors on your case for libel. Really your posts are exaggerated and often complete lies:
ReplyDelete1. you have said MCS is out to make money for themselves, and called them a company. They are a charity. Check the charity commission website for further info on what that means.
2. You have claimed MCS and various other people regularly denounce David Attenborough. I have read their website, FB page & their quarterly journal & I've never read anything about denouncing David Attenborough, or denying that over population is a problem. Their aim is to campaign for better protection for UK seas, not to solved every world crisis.
And actually, if they stated he's not a biologist they weren't technically wrong - he studied geology, becams a natural history presenter and is now well-known for promoting natural history. But he was never employed or trained as a biologist. He is awesome though!
3. You have compared the creation of the Chagos MPA to Hitler killing thousands of Jews. That's deeply offensive - to Jews, to anyone that lived / fought in the war, and embarrassing to the people of Chagos & those who work in marine conservation. Do you really think the leading researchers and scientists at ZSL (Zoological Society of London) are comparable to Hitler? They did much of the research to promote the designation of the MPA by the way. Maybe now you should launch an online attack on them too? Really?
4. You have claimed that staff at MCS know nothing about marine ecology. Their staff have degrees, Maters degrees and / or PhDs and research / practical community experience from the UK or abroad.
You are in essence embarrassing yourself here - showing yourself to be bitter, full of anger and insults against organisations with very good intentions. You are committing libel & breaking the law. If you actually achieved the notoriety you're desperately seeking, you would be in court in no time at all. See here for further details or consult a solicitor if you really need convincing.

p.s. I don't work for MCS, or ZSL but feel it's a real shame that you have so much anger inside that you feel the need to write so many untrue things in such an agressive tone.
Please don't post on here if you haven't got a clue what your talking about. For instance MCS advertise jobs at £28,000 a year, they clearly don't understand the importance that land use (ie Damming) has on the Marine environment and mostly use micky mouse sources to back up their views or just leech things from the BBC (which is nearly as bad. I've clearly stated on several occasions they tour universities giving speeches about their views on conservation and if any one dare challenge their views or mention Sir David's(like myself), they and their fans will 'rip your head off'. We live in a democracy where free speech is allowed. What makes you think that just because they have PhDs they know what they are talking about - are you saying they know how to treat resources better than natives who have lived the same way for 1000's of years. I have degree's in Marine Ecology and Environmental Resource Management, and trust me most people on those courses were only in it for themselves.
ReplyDeleteIt's not a problem for me but it's a problem for you!!
Who are the 'natives' that have been living sustainably for 1000s of years? Very few places in the world have so called 'natives' that have lived anywhere for 1000s of years - remote parts of Africa or the Amazon basin only possible exceptions. Not the Chagossians - it wasn't populated for 1000s of years (only about 200 yrs in fact). It wasn't a thriving community - some of the islands were abandoned already due to lack of resources, was dependent on food imports, and many of the islanders were illiterate.
ReplyDeleteBut actually you'll be pleased to know there is a project to train up Chagossians in environmental monitoring so some could potentially go back to act as environmental guardians at a scientific research station that may be established there. By the way it's better to use 'indigenous population' rather than 'natives' which is now considered offensive as it harks back to the perceptions of natives / savages in the age of imperialism.
Freedom of speech is true - but this isn't speech is it? It's you publishing lies on the web....like I said, do some research on libel or ask a solicitor. But you're probably okay as not many people will read your blog & take it seriously enough to act through the courts.
I'm giving up now, I really hope you see sense & do the same.
Lame!
